Police seek sightings of van over death

The police are seeking sightings of a blue van in their homicide investigation into the death of a Hutt Valley man, whose body was discovered in scrub near his abandoned car.

Matthew Stevens was found beaten and stabbed to death alongside the Paekakariki Hill Road on 29 November.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears said police believed a 1994 blue Toyota Hiace van was at a property in Oxford Street, Lower Hutt which police had searched.

The van had seats in the front and shelving in the back, with containers for bolts and screws, he said. It had factory-fitted tyres at the front and distinctive, smaller, light grey mag wheels and tyres at the rear.

The van had been seized and would undergo forensic tests, Mr Sears said.

Police wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen it on 27 or 28 November.
