Miserable commute after train breakdown

12:07 pm on 11 December 2014

Thousands of rail commuters in Auckland had their journeys disrupted when one of the city's new electric trains broke down, cutting access to the main downtown rail terminus.

Auckland Transport says a Manukau line service broke down outside the Britomart station at about 8.45am and had to be pushed into the station by another train.

About 15 trains were stopped at the Newmarket station over a 45 minute period and passengers were told to complete their journeys by bus.

Auckland Transport says services took taken a couple of hours to return to normal.
