Five people are critically injured after a major road accident in Bay of Plenty.
The crash happened near Athenree Road off State Highway Two, between Tauranga and Waihi.
Two of the injured were children.
Six people in all were hurt - two have been taken to Tauranga Hospital, two have gone to Auckland Hospital and the remaining two were sent to Waikato.
Two helicopters and five ambulances were called to the scene.
State Highway Two had earlier been closed, but was open again.
