There's been more fallout within the Department of Corrections over the escape of the convicted murderer and sex offender Phillip John Smith.

The Department has confirmed that action has been taken against four staff as the result of investigations into the escape.

Smith was spoken to by the police last week, and named a prison officer who he says helped him escape in return for $7000 in cash.

It was announced on Friday that an unnamed prison officer had been suspended in relation to the police's inquiry into how Smith was able to flee to South America while on temporary release from prison.

The Corrections Department has now confirmed that a second officer has been suspended and two others have been reprimanded after internal inquiries raised questions about their roles in the matter.

The Department of Corrections says the second suspended person is undergoing an internal employment-related investigation.
