Teens wanted over motel death

2:26 pm on 31 December 2014

Police have named two teenagers they say were with Ihaia Gillman-Harris shortly before he was fatally assaulted at an Auckland motel.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said Leonard Nattrass-Berquist and Beauen Wallace-Loretz, both 17, were caught on security cameras on Saturday checking into the motel where Mr Gillman-Harris was assaulted.

Police had arrest warrants for the pair over Mr Gillman-Harris' death.

"My message to both these young men is: 'Come into the police, make contact with us. You can run but you can't hide. We're not going to stop looking for you, just because it is the festive season.'"

Mr Beard said police believed people connected to the teenagers were helping them hide.

He said police had a fair idea what happened inside the Epsom motel room but he would not talk about a possible motive.

He showed photographs of the teenagers to the media outside Auckland Central police station this morning.

Mr Gillman-Harris was found injured in his room and died later that day in Auckland Hospital.

A post-mortem has confirmed he died of blunt force trauma to the head.
