Charges to be laid over marae building deaths

6:01 am on 16 January 2010

The Department of Labour is to lay charges over the death of two men killed while working at a marae in Manurewa in June last year.

The men were crushed to death and another was seriously injured when a bulldozer slid into a building they were working in, causing it to collapse.

Manukau City Council helped purchase the old villa, which was being moved to the Manurewa marae for conversion into a health care centre.

The department won't yet say who will be charged until the matter goes to court next month.
