A man who escaped from a Waikato prison last week has been remanded in custody.
The 33-year-old inmate, Michael Campbell, escaped from the Hamilton District Court cells on 27 December but was subsequently caught.
Police said he appeared in the Hamilton District Court today and was remanded in custody until Monday next week.
Meanwhile, Wipei Aratere, a prisoner who escaped while in Hutt Hospital in Lower Hutt, is still evading capture.
The Department of Corrections said Awatere was taken to hospital after he told officers at Rimutaka Prison he had swallowed razor blades.
He is now thought to have faked the incident.
