Police lift drunk man into patrol car

Christchurch police say a man arrested for drunk driving was so intoxicated he was not able to stand and had to be lifted by the arresting officers into a patrol car.

The 30-year-old allegedly crashed a blue BMW into wooden bollards in the suburb of Linwood yesterday afternoon before driving away.

He was then pulled over by the police who said it was lucky nobody was injured as a result of his actions.

The man had been charged with driving while disqualified, careless operation of a vehicle and refusing a request to supply blood.
