Police say a man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident during a street fight in the Waikato town of Ngaruawahia overnight.
They said a fight involving bats and sticks broke out among about 15 people in Jackson Street just before midnight.
Police said it was believed to have been gang-related, and several arrests were made.
About the same time, the police were called to a big fight in the south Auckland suburb of Otara.
They said when officers arrived, at least 20 people were involved in the incident and bottles were thrown at the patrol car.
Nobody was injured, and several arrests were made.
