Homes flooded in Cambridge

5:56 am on 28 January 2010

Fire crews were flat out on Wednesday night after heavy rain caused flooding to houses in Cambridge.

Chief fire officer Don Gerrand says 14 houses in the Waikato town were affected by the downpour, which began at about 9.30pm and lasted an hour and a half. Two homes were evacuated

Mr Gerrand says fire staff mopped up floors and pumped out flooded sections. He says most of the flooding was a result of drains and gutters being blocked by leaves.

Fire crews were also called to flooding incidents in Taupo and Rotorua.
