Ms Sepuloni was temporarily stood down from the role following charges of benefit fraud being laid against her mother.

Labour leader Andrew Little said Carmel Sepuloni would pick up arts, culture and heritage and transport safety, while the deputy leader, Annette King, would look after social development.

He said Ms Sepuloni would be reappointed as Labour's social development spokesperson following the conclusion of her mother's case, regardless of the outcome.
