Health Ministry quiet on CEO delay

6:49 pm on 18 March 2015

The Health Ministry refused to speculate today on why it has been waiting for a permanent department head for 16 months.

Labour MP Annette King raised the matter at a hearing of Parliament's health select committee.

The Ministry has been headed by an acting director-general of health and acting chief executive, Chai Chuah since the former department head, Kevin Woods, left in November 2013.

Ms King asked Mr Chuah if a permanent replacement for Dr Woods was about to be announced, and about the reasons for the delay.

He replied that as acting director-general, he had not had any formal discussions with the State Services Commission about the reasons.

He suggested that Ms King ask the commission.

The Minsitry said its work and programmes had not suffered from the lack of a permanent department head.
