Tsunami sirens will also be tested in some places, with the Christchurch City Council trying out 25 newly-installed sirens along the coast.

The sirens will be sounded for up to 3 minutes at 11 am Sunday.

Tests are also scheduled for the east coast of Northland between 9am and 10am and for North and West Auckland beaches at midday.

Daylight saving resumes on 27 September.
