State Highway 3 through the Manawatu Gorge is to be reopened but under limited conditions.
The road was closed on 9 April because of a slip and the Transport Agency had expected it to remain shut for a fortnight.
From tomorrow, it will be opened from 7am to 6pm. A single lane only will be available at the slip site, and someone will be on site to close the road should rocks fall.
The Transport Agency is expecting more rocks to come down over the weekend because of heavy rain forecast for the region.
It says it will not hesistate to close the route again if the situation changes.
Another major landslip in 2011 closed the gorge road for nearly a year.
