New windfarm battle looms

3:09 pm on 10 February 2010

Opponents of the Project Hayes windfarm in Central Otago are preparing for another round in their legal bid to stop the $2 billion development by Meridian Energy.

Last year, the Save Central group won an appeal at the Environment Court, but Meridian Energy has appealed against that in the High Court.

Both sides will discuss the details of the High Court hearing on SWednesday with Justice Fogarty before setting a date for the proceedings.

Meridian Energy says it had no option but to appeal against the Environment Court decision to halt the project because it sets a standard which could stymie all major infrastructure development in New Zealand.
