Architecture association against Queens Wharf design

The Auckland Architecture Association says the latest design for Queens Wharf is ill-considered and likens it to lipstick on a pig.

The $100-million dollar will serve as a cruise ship terminal and party hub for the 2011 World Cup.

The association says turning the wharf into a public space is a once in a century opportunity and its design should not be rushed for the sake of a few rugby games.

It says the latest proposal is nothing but a glorified ferry terminal and hardly ideal for "party central" in September weather.

The association says the city will regret it for years to come if the design goes ahead.
