Man hurt in logging incident

A forestry worker has serious injuries after being hit by a tree on Arapawa Island in the Queen Charlotte Sounds.

The coast guard, a St John ambulance officer and a rescue helicopter were called to the scene at Umuwheke Bay.

The ambulance service says the man, in his 30s, has very serious injuries.

Meanwhile, a climber has been rescued after falling about 100 metres on Rolleston Glacier in Arthur's Pass National Park.

A helicopter with a paramedic on board flew into the area on Tuesday afternoon and took a man in his 20s to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the man is believed to have suffered facial injuries and possible fractures.
