Discussions on Shotover clearance bill

3:37 pm on 16 July 2008

Queenstown tourist operators may pay the costs of clearing a 100,000 cubic metre slip above the Shotover River.

The slip, upstream from the Edith Cavell Bridge, has closed a section of the river and forced the suspension of commercial rafting trips for more than a week.

Tourism operators are becoming anxious.

Totally Tourism boss Mark Quickfall says operators will meet Queenstown Lakes District Council on Friday.

Mr Quickfall says the meeting will determine whether explosives and monsoon buckets should be used.
