Kapiti makes bid for Cordon Bleu school

4:34 pm on 19 July 2008

Kapiti has become the latest district to put in a bid to host the international Cordon Bleu cooking school.

The school promises to be the only five-star, 300-student capacity institute of its kind in New Zealand.

It follows the decision of the Universal College of Learning not to establish the school in Wellington and Martinborough.

Kapiti Coast District Council, growers, local MPs and other key groups support the proposal to establish the school in Kapiti, north of Wellington.

Mayor Jenny Rowan says a cooking school with 300 students and their families arriving would be exciting for the district. She says a decision will be made by the head of UCOL when he returns from an overseas trip in two weeks.

She says if given the go-ahead, the school could be established in 12 months.
