The eight-year legal battle over an alleged body-snatching has finally been resolved through mediation, but the decision is not being released.
James Takamore died in 2007 and was due to be buried in Christchurch, but his Tuhoe whanau took his body to a family cemetery in the Bay of Plenty, against his partner's wishes.
In 2012 the Supreme Court ruled that Mr Takamore's partner, Denise Clarke, could decide where he should be buried.
Both parties agreed to a resolution yesterday after court mediation in Christchurch.
The mediation was chaired by a High Court judge and attended by representatives of Tuhoe, police and the Attorney-General's office.
Ms Clarke's lawyer, Gary Knight, said a decision had been made but it would not be made public until all members of the family had been told.
Mr Knight said both parties were happy with the decision so it was a win-win situation.
