The North Island iwi, Ngati Apa, will sign a final deed of settlement with the Crown over its entire Treaty of Waitangi claim on Wednesday morning at the Whangaehu Marae in Marton.

Based in the Rangitikei region, the claim relates primarily to the Crown's purchase of a 105,000 hectares of land in 1849.

It also includes the failure of the Crown to protect about 14,000 hectares of reserves.

The settlement includes $16 million and the transfer of a number of sites of cultural significance.
