Road conditions

8:05 am on 24 July 2008

State Highway One between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki north of Wellington is now clear.

Traffic along the Kapiti Coast was disrupted by heavy sea swells washing debris onto Centennial Highway on Thursday.

The same problem is occurring in Wellington harbour: Ontrack says the Wellington - Petone railway line is being monitored because sea swells are threatening to wash onto the track.

Meanwhile, State Highway 2 is down to one lane on the Rimutaka Hill Road because of slips. The Manawatu Gorge on State Highway 3 still has rocks and debris on it, but is open.

Greys Road from Plimmerton to Pauatahanui is closed.

There's also a slip in the Hunua Gorge in the Papakura area that's blocking half the road.

Snow showers are expected on the Desert Road.

Snow is also expected at the Lewis, Arthurs, Lindis and Porters passes to about 500 metres.

On the Milford Road, snow is expected to 400 metres.

Heavy snow is possible for Canterbury foothills.
