Anonymity to be sought for witnesses to party attack

The prosecution in Hastings has indicated it wants to give witnesses who attended a 21st party where five people were injured, the chance of giving evidence anonymously.

A group of men carrying machetes, knives and iron bars gatecrashed a party at Bridge Pa south west of Hastings last month and attacked partygoers.

Four men charged with causing grievous bodily harm have made their third appearance in the Hastings District Court.

The Crown prosecutor gave notice that he will apply before the end of August for witness anonymity.

Judge Rea remanded three of the four accused in custody for the applications to be heard in Napier in late September.
