Tickling primary teacher deregistered

The Education Council has censured and cancelled the registration of a primary school teacher who tickled girls in his classroom and gave children "horsey rides" on his knee.

The council's disciplinary tribunal decision said Donald McIntyre Morrison was last year acquitted of criminal charges related to his behaviour.

However, he admitted it amounted to serious misconduct.

The decision said Morrison tickled girls both on and under their clothing, held children upside down by their ankles and gave children horse bites on their knees.

The tribunal also censured him and ordered him to pay 30 percent of its costs.

The name of the school at which Morrison worked from 2007 until December 2014 is suppressed.
