A Hamilton man who tried to solicit sex through social media was instead blackmailed and robbed.
The man contacted a prostitute using social media on Monday night, according to Hamilton police.
He arranged to meet her at a Hillcrest address, but when he met the woman, there were three others with her - two male and a female.
Police said the group blackmailed him to hand over money, threatened him with a knife and robbed his flat.
Acting Detective Sergeant Andrew Hawke said police were concerned others may have been victimised by the same group, and are asking people to come forward with any information to Detective Constable Scott McKenzie at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.
