Six of the nine men accused of kidnapping and assaulting a man in Christchurch over the weekend have made their first appearance in court.
The Armed Offenders Squad executed search warrants yesterday morning after a man made an assault and kidnapping complaint.
Dylan Corbin, Matthew Mulvey, Matthew Rowe, Jason Rewiti and Leon Turner have been remanded in custody for appearances by video link from Christchurch Prison on 31 August.
Mr Mulvey lashed out when leaving the dock and had to be restrained by police staff.
Earl Waitokia, of Whanganui, was also remanded in custody. The other three men will appear in court this afternoon.
The Canterbury District Health Board said the alleged victim was discharged from hospital yesterday.
