Public input sought on how to improve food labelling

People are to be asked for their views on how to improve food labelling.

A committee overseeing a review of food labels in Australia and New Zealand will start public consultations on the issue in Christchurch and Wellington on April.

Green MP Sue Kedgley says the Green Parties in Australia and New Zealand both support a system of green, orange or red labels for healthy, marginal or unhealthy foods.

However, the Food and Grocery Council says it supports percentage daily intake labelling, which some products in New Zealand already have.
