Trans-Tasman rower running short of supplies

A rower attempting a solo crossing of the Tasman may need to have emergency supplies dropped to him.

Aucklander Shaun Quincey, 24, set off from New South Wales on 19 January and is now about 300 nautical miles (540km) from New Plymouth.

A member of his support crew, Michael Buck, says he covered 72 kilometres on Monday and is making good progress, but is running short of drinking water.

Mr Buck says the team is investigating how to drop more to him should he need it.

There should be a clearer idea of when Mr Quincey will reach New Zealand by the end of this week, he says.
