A Nelson doctor is calling for clearer guidelines regarding whether or not patients and family members can film procedures in hospitals.
Nick Baker, who is the district health board's chief medical officer, said that while making audio recordings and filming the delivery of a new baby was reasonable, lines did need to be drawn.
He said privacy issues for staff and patients were increasingly becoming a concern, and film and video can become a weapon for harassment and bullying.
Dr Baker said there have been incidents in the past where images taken of patients during treatment were then altered and used in humiliating ways.
