North Bank Tunnel hearing continues

9:58 pm on 7 August 2008

A decision on whether Meridian Energy will be allowed to build a hydro power scheme in Canterbury is drawing closer.

The three commissioners considering the resource consent application to build the North Bank Tunnel Concept have been hearing additional evidence in a reconvened hearing before making a final decision.

The hydro scheme would draw water from the Waitaki Lake and discharge it back into the Waitaki River about 34 kilometres downstream.

The Commissioners were expected to make a decision before the end of May, but decided they needed more information.

A final decision is expected around the end of the month.
