A man has appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court, after what the police describe as the assault and kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl in Petone.
The police say several windows were smashed in the incident, which happened early on Saturday morning. The girl was released a short time later.
A young man, 19, was arrested by police after turning himself in.
He appeared in court on Saturday afternoon and was remanded in custody on charges of kidnapping, aggravated burglary and assault with a weapon.
He will reappear in court on Monday.
