Residents say 1080 dropped close to West Coast town

Some residents in the West Coast town of Kumara are concerned about the safety of their water supply following an aerial drop of 1080 poison last Friday.

They say the helicopter drops were indiscriminate and pellets have been found within kilometres of the town.

The Animal Health Board says it has had teams removing any 1080 pellets in areas open to the public.

It says Kumara people can rest assured their water supply is safe because the town's water catchment area was excluded from the drop.

The board is conducting tests and has promised to give residents the results.
