All Whites lose warm-up match against Mexico

7:17 pm on 4 March 2010

Mexico has beaten the All Whites 2-0 in their football World Cup warm-up match in Los Angeles.

It was nil-all at halftime, but Mexico scored two goals in the space of three minutes early in the second half and had several other chances which went begging on Wednesday.

New Zealand had few scoring opportunities, although Shane Smeltz did put the ball in the back of Mexico's net, only for fellow striker Rory Fallon to be called offside.

Defender Tommy Smith, 19, made his international debut for New Zealand, as did Auckland City's Chris Coombes, 26, in the midfield.
