Judicial review being held next week into transmission line

5:19 pm on 14 August 2008

A judicial review into a planned high-voltage transmission line from south Waikato to Auckland will be heard by the High Court next week.

The anti-pylon group, New Era Energy, wants the court to review the Electricity Commission's approval for the line which was granted last year.

New Era Energy says the judicial review will, in its opinion, uncover the pre-determination, flawed processes and inappropriate external political influences it believes led to the commission approving the 200km line.

The hearing, in the High Court in Wellington, is expected to last five days, with a decision not expected until later in the year.

The Electricity Commission has approved the new 400 kilovolt line, but an environmental Board of Inquiry is still holding hearings and has yet to make a decision.
