A man has died while in police custody in Rotorua.
Police said ambulance staff called them to help with a man they believed was intoxicated at 3pm on Saturday in the city's CBD.
The 52-year-old was taken to the police station where custody staff became concerned about his welfare.
Police said a police doctor assessed him and an ambulance was called, but his condition deteriorated and he died.
