A former paramedic is on trial in the Auckland District Court for sexually assaulting patients while transporting them to hospital.

He faces one charge of sexual violation and 10 of indecent assault, involving five women, including a school girl, aged 16, between 1999 - 2000.

The Crown says he took advantage of the women when they were vulnerable in an emergency situation.

It says the violations were carried out under the guise of a medical examination.

The man, who's name and current occupation are suppressed, is defending the charges, saying the medical examinations were legitimate.
