Australia apologises to Helen Clark over circulation of a briefing note that says her foreign policy outlook was shaped by her anti-Vietnam war views; number of people infected by norovirus in Dunedin hospital continues to climb; NZ Olympic medal tally grows.

NZ Herald

The New Zealand Herald pictures gold medal winner Tom Ashley emblazoned on the front page. Holding his arms aloft, the boardsailing champion, is reported not to be giving any hints as to what his future might hold, other than plans to marry his fiancee, Mariana, in her native Brazil.

It also displays New Zealand's growing medal tally: Gold: 3 Silver: 1 Bronze: 5.

Dominion Post

The Dominion Post also leads with the latest gold medal winner and middle distance runner Nick Willis who won a bronze earlier in the 'glamour' 1500 metre event.

The paper also says expat billionaire Owen Glenn will cooperate with an inquiry by the Serious Fraud office into his $100,000 donation to Winston Peters. Mr Glenn revealed on Wednesday night he had already provided written statements to the SFO and the Parliamentary Privileges Committee.

The Press

The Press reports the friend of a New Brighton woman found dead in the Port Hills, confronted a man she believed responsible and led police to him. Kerry Leigh Downey, 52, disappeared on Monday night.

It also say Australia has apologised to Prime Minister Helen Clark over the circulation of a briefing note saying her foreign policy outlook was shaped by her anti-Vietnam war views. Foreign Affairs says the note was an outdated internal draft.

ODT

The Otago Daily Times says Dunedin Hospital management has backed its cleaning procedures and staff, as the number of people infected by norovirus in the hospital, continues to climb.

Dunedin biotechnology company Botry-Zen Ltd is up for sale because it is in default with Bank of New Zealand after its shareholders said no to a plan to raise new capital.
