A jury in the High Court in Auckland has found two caregivers guilty of killing an intellectually disabled woman.

The body of Patricia Joseph, 37, was found dumped in the Wairoa River in January 2008.

The jury found Here Teinakirai guilty on Wednesday of two counts of manslaughter relating to Ms Joseph's assault and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Teinakirai was also convicted of disposing of Ms Joseph's body and 11 other assault charges, some of which were historical.

Co-accused Joseph Proude was found guilty of manslaughter by way of assault, along with five other assault charges.

Proude had previously admitted helping to dispose of the body and one count of manslaughter.

The pair will be sentenced in May.

The victim's sister, Debbie Joseph, says she blames herself for the death because Teinakirai and Proude took over her care-giving role after she had assaulted her sister.

Ms Joseph was charged over the assault and pleaded guilty.
