New Zealand chomps up more data than ever

12:04 pm on 17 October 2015

Uncapped broadband connections have quadrupled in the past year and Internet New Zealand says it is a sign of things to come.

Official figures show the number of connections with no data cap grew to 628,000 in June this year, from 155,000 for the same month last year.

Statistics New Zealand said a third of all broadband connections were now uncapped. The rise was possible through improvements to connection technologies allowing people to watch high definition TV and movies over the internet, it said.

Internet New Zealand acting chief executive Andrew Cushen said the increased data usage reflected what was available for consumers.
