Female attendant attacked and robbed at CHB transfer station

4:58 pm on 28 August 2008

The police in Central Hawke's Bay are investigating the armed robbery of a transfer station attendant.

CHB District Council chief executive John Freeman says the woman had just opened the gates of the station at the coastal settlement of Porangahau when two men, one carrying a baseball bat, approached her and demanded money.

Mr Freeman says the woman handed over about $100, mostly in coins, before she was struck several times on the legs and upper body.

He says she wasn't seriously hurt and didn't require hospital treatment.

The council is now reviewing the way its handles cash at the transfer station.
