Australian detectives have travelled to Auckland to charge a man with murder.

The 27-year-old, who has not been named, has been charged in relation to the death of a missing 37-year-old Australian father Gregory Dufty.

A New Zealand police spokesperson said its officers helped with an arrest warrant, and the man then appeared before a judge in Auckland.

The ABC reported the man would be extradited today and appear in court in Queensland, charged with murder and misconduct of a corpse.

Another man, Lionel Patea, has also been charged with murdering Mr Dufty.

He faces a second murder charge of fatally bashing his partner, New Zealander Tara Brown.

Ms Brown was run off the road and assaulted in her upturned car, police said.

Mr Dufty was last seen at his former partner's home last July 6, before leaving in a rented utility. His body has not been found.
