Electricity pylon hit by wet weather stabilised

Stabilising equipment has been put in place to support a Transpower pylon that carries electricity between the North and South Islands.

The ground beneath the Marlborough pylon had slipped because of the excessive wet weather, causing one leg of the pylon to buckle.

The problem was discovered on Thursday night during a routine maintenance check.

Mobile transmission equipment was sent to the area to ensure the power supply would not be disrupted if the pylon collapsed before repairs were made, but it was not needed.

Transpower's spokesperson Rebecca Wilson says no other pylons were affected by the slip.
