Parole denied for killer

A man who tortured and killed a Wellington woman has again been denied parole.

Rufus Marsh, 55, has been in prison for more than 20 years since killing Dianne Miller in her home in 1986.

He also served a prison sentence before that for helping beat to death an elderly man in 1975.

A letter from Marsh's lawyer was placed before the Parole Board last week which asked for Marsh to attend a sexual offenders programme and be recommended for work paroles, home leaves, and transfer to a self-care unit.

However, the Parole Board says Marsh is still too unsafe to be released, although it supports him attending the sex offenders programme.
