Former All Black and current Chiefs player Sione Lauaki has admitted a charge of assault.
The 28-year-old appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Tuesday on the charge, which relates to an incident at a central Hamilton bar on 5 March.
The court was told Lauaki was with friends when he punched the victim at least twice in a dispute about a drink. The victim received cuts and bruising to a lip.
Lauaki pleaded guilty and was remanded at large. No conviction will be entered until his sentencing on 6 May.
In the meantime, the judge ordered Lauaki to attend an anger management course.
Outside the court, Lauaki said he was remorseful and disappointed to have let his family and team mates down.
The Chiefs say Lauaki is available for Super 14 rugby selection pending his sentencing.
Chief executive Gary Dawson says once the court case is over, Lauaki faces an internal
disciplinary process but is available in the meantime.
