Police in Auckland have charged a man with assaulting a two-year-old girl who was critically injured in a house on the North Shore.
Officers are investigating how the girl was hurt at the house in the suburb of Beach Haven. She was admitted to Starship Hospital on Wednesday night and has undergone surgery.
Police say a 27-year-old man was to appear in North Shore District Court on Saturday on a charge of assault.
They say more charges will be laid once the full extent of the girl's injuries is known.
