Richard John Percival, 37, removed his bracelet at about 11pm on Thursday evening at the Burnside home where he was serving his sentence, police said.

He is described as Maori, 178cm tall, of medium build with short dark hair.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cottam said police were unable to find him over the weekend.

"We've got a number of contacts and we're speaking to his friends and relatives and associates.

"We're also seeking information from the public that if they've seen him or know where he is to come forward and let us know."

Percival was not considered a risk to the public but should not be approached and people should instead call 111 if they see him.
