A national private heathcare provider is poised to sign a multi-million dollar deal with a Chinese local authority to train professionals in post-operative care in the home.

The $100 million-a-year contract is between the local government of Tianjin and Healthcare New Zealand, to run three training programmes over three years.

Healthcare New Zealand chairman Doug Catley says the contract will be signed by the end of the month.

He says the venture will initially create 30 jobs at the company's head office in Wellington, and expansion into other Chinese cities could add a further 200 new jobs.
