The Corrections Department will in future tell Child Youth and Family (CYF) when it releases prisoners who pose a risk to children, it says.
The department last week revealed it had no mechanism for alerting the child protection agency to child abusers leaving jail.

The loophole was revealed after a father-of-four, convicted of fracturing his baby's skull, legs and ribs, was released from prison and CYF found out only six days later he was living at the family home.
Corrections Minister Judith Collins told RNZ her department should automatically notify the agency.
The Privacy Commissioner said Corrections may not have amended its processes since the law changed in 2013 to provide immunity for sharing information about at-risk children.
Corrections said a working group from both departments met on Friday to update their Service Level Agreement.
It said it would provide the release dates of certain prisoners to CYF.
