A Kapiti man has died following a suspected overdose of a drug commonly known as "bath salts".
The 27-year-old man died last night after being airlifted to Wellington Hospital on Monday.
A police spokesperson said it was the fourth report they had received of people who had taken the drug needing hospital treatment.
The drug, Alpha PVP, causes hallucinations, erratic and aggressive behaviour, seizures and loss of consciousness.
The spokesman said police were concerned more people had bought the drug not knowing exactly what they had.
They were asking anyone who had bought it during the past week to destroy it, as drug dealers were increasingly mixing it with other substances.
The police executed a search warrant in Waikanae, on the Kapiti Coast, and a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with drug related offences.
He will appear in the Porirua District Court.
