Man chaged over Christchurch stabbing

A man has appeared in Christchurch District Court on charges relating to a stabbing in the city.

Jonathon Cummings, 25, is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for allegedly attacking Benjamin Summers with a broken bottle.

The incident occurred on Hereford Street, near Oxford Terrace, about 5am.

Mr Cummings is also charged with assaulting a female who became caught up in what the police describe as a drunken fight.

He was remanded on bail to reappear in two weeks.
